Charnwood ALMO

Yesterday, a 3 month jail sentence was ordered to a young man who broke the terms of his injunction for the third time in three months.

Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing, on behalf of Charnwood Borough Council, sought and obtained the injunction which prohibited the defendant from entering certain areas of the Shelthorpe Estate in Loughborough and from carrying offensive weapons.

The defendant was again found within the exclusion area and was conveyed to Leicestershire County Court by the Police within hours to answer for his behaviour.

On passing sentence the Judge, said, “The breach before me was a deliberate act by you, you have offered no excuse”. The defendant had previously breached the terms of the order and was released from custody only 6 days before breaching the order again.

Ian Saville, Chief Executive of Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing said,” Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing will continue to pursue those who seek to disrupt the enjoyment of people living in our properties. The sentence reflects the seriousness of ignoring an order made by the County Court”.

Wendy Brown, ASB Coordinator for Charnwood Borough Council said, ”This is another example of good multi agency work. Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing, the Council and the Police worked swiftly to ensure that the matter was brought before the judge within a matter of hours”.

Sergeant Paul Kear, Citizen Focus Sergeant said,” If you are thinking of contravening an order of the County Court – think again. This is powerful legislation with serious consequences. I hope this illustrates to the vast majority of law-abiding people just how seriously the courts, local authority and police treat this type of unacceptable behaviour
