Garden competition 2011
CNH’s annual tenant garden competition 2011 was another huge success making the judging harder than ever!
With over thirty entries this year the judges were thrilled at the response to the competition. Several entries were from people who had never entered before and one of them made such a great first impression, the judges placed them first in their category!
The judges, (a CNH Board member, two tenant representatives and a member of the Customer Engagement team) spent two days visiting the gardens and speaking to the proud gardeners. Judge Councillor Paul Day said: “As a keen gardener myself, it was wonderful to see so much effort being put into the gardens. Even the small spaces like the balconies had some of the most beautiful flowers which really made a difference to the appearance of the flats.”
The following prizes were awarded:
House/flat garden
1st place: Mr and Mrs Dews, Link Road, Anstey
2nd place: Mrs Layton, Caters Close, Anstey
3rd place: Mrs Bennet, Middlefield Road, Cossington
Sheltered court garden
1st place: Aingarth, Loughborough
2nd place: Beresford Court, Shepshed
3rd place: Babington Court, Rothley
Communal garden
1st place: The Mills at Quorn (even numbers)
2nd place: The Mills at Quorn (odd numbers)
3rd place: Altogether Place, Loughborough
Hanging basket/balcony
1st place: Mr Farmer, Longcliffe Road, Shepshed
2nd place: Mr Fraser, Freehold Street, Loughborough
3rd place: Mr Allen, Dudley Court, Sileby
Judge, Sheila Breed, said “I thoroughly enjoyed the judging – although the standard this year made it very hard! I was amazed at how much work some people had put into making the most of their space. The garden at Aingarth has been completely transformed and is now a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the sun.”
Sally Harbey, Customer Services and Engagement Manager, was thrilled with the success of the competition and said: “It proves that when residents take pride in where they live it can have a positive effect on those around them. The effort and dedication of the residents is an inspiration and we hope they continue to take pride in their homes and the surrounding communities.”
Tenants told the judges how they get a lot of enjoyment out of gardening and their efforts certainly make a big difference to the local area. The dedication and pride in the gardens was clear and all of the entrants should be an inspiration to others, no matter how big or small your space.
Diane Lockwood (tenant representative and CNH Board member), who also judged the competition, said: ”It was good to see the changes and improvements in the gardens which we had seen in previous years. If I’m lucky enough to be able to judge again next year, I’d also like to see some new gardens so I hope other people are inspired by this year’s winners.”
