Independent Living

Would you like:

  • Security of living in a complex covered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year;
  • Independent living, but companionship and social activities if you want them;
  • A visiting warden who can help you if required;
  • Access to beautiful gardens without having to maintain them;
  • Reduced heating bills and less cleaning!

If the answer is yes and you are over 60 years old, then why not consider one of our 15 sheltered schemes around the borough.

If you are over 50 but not quite ready for scheme living, there are also flats in the borough specifically designated for the over 50’s.

We also have an assisted transfer scheme whereby we offer a financial incentive – up to £2,000 for tenants who transfer from family accommodation to smaller, more manageable or suitable accommodation. If you are interested in this scheme please contact the tenancy services team on 01509 634666.

For more information about individual schemes or housing in Charnwood generally please contact Housing Needs on 01509 634567.

St Pauls Court

More information about Sheltered Accommodation

There are 15 Courts in the Borough, 6 of which have a Resident Warden. The Courts provide self-contained accommodation and encourage independent living.

All of the flats within the schemes are fitted with a Warden Call System linked to our Central Control. Central Control is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will assist tenants in an emergency.

Tenants are visited on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and are also contacted via the intercom on Tuesday and Thursday by the scheme warden. (If a tenant is unwell, the warden will visit more often). Tenants are also contacted once at the weekend via the intercom by an on-call warden. 'At risk' tenants are contacted via the intercom on both Saturday and Sunday.

The warden monitors the well-being of each tenant and will contact the necessary organisation if any further support is needed to help with day to day living.

The wardens work from 9am - 5pm on Monday to Thursday, and from 9am to 4:30pm on Friday. An on-call warden is available for emergencies out of office hours if the Control Centre is unable to contact a member of the family.

All schemes have a communal lounge where social activities are arranged by the tenants.

The service is funded and organised through Supporting People (Leicestershire County Council) and a charge is made by them for the Warden Service provided, in addition to the rent.
